Discharge during Urination
What is it?
Discharge during urination can be a sign of various diseases of the urinary tract or reproductive organs. These discharges may be accompanied by discomfort such as burning, itching, or pain, and may indicate infections or inflammatory processes.
Causes of Discharge during Urination
- Cystitis. Inflammation of the bladder, which may cause painful sensations during urination and discharge.
- Urethritis. Inflammation of the urethra, which is often accompanied by discharge and burning during urination.
- Urinary tract infections. Bacterial infections can lead to discharge from the urethra and painful urination.
- Sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Chlamydia, gonorrhea, and other STIs can cause discharge during urination.
- Bladder stones. The presence of stones can irritate the mucous membrane and cause discharge during urination.
- Allergic reactions. Allergies to personal hygiene products or condoms may cause inflammation and discharge.
- Exacerbation of chronic diseases. Chronic conditions such as diabetes can lead to discharge during urination.
When to See a Doctor?
- If the discharge is accompanied by itching, burning, or pain during urination.
- If the discharge has an unusual color, smell, or consistency.
- If urination becomes painful or frequent.
- If there is a fever or a general deterioration in health.
- If discharge appears after sexual contact or is accompanied by other symptoms of sexually transmitted infections.
Diagnosis and Treatment
- Doctor's examination. A urologist or gynecologist will conduct an examination and take a medical history to identify potential causes of discharge.
- Urine tests. A general urine test and bacteriological examination may help identify infection or inflammation.
- Swab from the urethra or vagina. A swab may be taken for diagnosing sexually transmitted infections.
- Ultrasound examination. An ultrasound of the urinary system will help identify bladder stones or other abnormalities.
- Antibiotics. Depending on the cause, the doctor may prescribe antibiotics to treat urinary tract infections or sexually transmitted infections.
- Painkillers. If there is severe pain, painkillers may be prescribed to relieve symptoms.
