Prolapse of Venous Vessels from the Anus
What is it?
Prolapse of venous vessels from the anus is a condition in which the venous structures protrude outside. This is usually associated with a condition called hemorrhoids, where the veins of the rectum become enlarged. It can be accompanied by pain, itching, bleeding, and discomfort in the anal area.
Causes of Prolapse of Venous Vessels from the Anus
- Chronic constipation. Persistent straining during defecation can increase pressure in the veins of the rectum, leading to their prolapse.
- Pregnancy. During pregnancy, increased pressure on the pelvic organs can lead to the dilation of veins and their prolapse from the anus.
- Heavy physical exertion. Weightlifting, intense physical activities, or other strenuous exercises can cause increased pressure in the veins, resulting in prolapse.
- Obesity. Excess weight increases pressure on the vessels in the anal area, contributing to their stretching and prolapse.
- Improper diet. Lack of fiber in the diet can lead to chronic constipation, which increases the risk of prolapse of venous vessels.
- Genetic predisposition. Inherited factors may play a role in the weakness of the venous walls, leading to their prolapse.
When to See a Doctor?
- If prolapse of venous vessels is accompanied by pain or bleeding.
- If the condition does not improve or worsens over time.
- If there is discomfort or itching in the anal area.
- If you notice the enlargement of veins or growths around the anus.
Diagnosis and Treatment
- Examination and Digital Rectal Exam. The doctor may perform an examination and a digital rectal exam to assess the condition of the venous vessels and detect signs of hemorrhoids.
- Anoscopy. Anoscopy can be used for a more detailed examination of the anal area and rectum to assess the severity of the condition.
- Conservative treatment. This includes medications to improve venous tone, pain relievers, anti-inflammatory drugs, as well as changes in diet and lifestyle.
- Medication. The doctor may prescribe medications to strengthen the venous walls (venotonics) and to reduce inflammation and pain.
- Surgical intervention. In severe cases, surgery may be needed to remove or correct the prolapsed venous vessels, such as hemorrhoidectomy or vessel ligation.
