Fatigue
What is it?
Fatigue is a general feeling of tiredness, apathy, and reduced vitality, which can be caused by various factors. It may manifest as decreased physical activity, lack of energy, loss of interest in usual activities, and a depressive state. Fatigue is often accompanied by insomnia, difficulty concentrating, and feelings of overload.
Causes of Fatigue
- Lack of sleep. Chronic sleep deprivation or irregular sleep patterns can significantly reduce energy levels and lead to persistent fatigue.
- Stress and anxiety. Psycho-emotional tension can cause fatigue and apathy, interfering with normal functioning.
- Deficiency of vitamins and minerals. Lack of substances such as vitamin D, iron, or B vitamins can lead to decreased energy levels and fatigue.
- Chronic diseases. Conditions like diabetes, hypothyroidism, anemia, or infections can cause fatigue as symptoms of the illness.
- Cardiovascular disorders. Heart or circulation problems may result in decreased activity and chronic fatigue.
- Lack of physical activity. A sedentary lifestyle can lead to fatigue, as the body does not receive enough energy to function properly.
- Psychological disorders. Depression and other psychological conditions can cause persistent fatigue and disinterest in daily activities.
When to See a Doctor?
- If fatigue persists for an extended period, despite normalization of sleep and rest.
- If fatigue is accompanied by other symptoms, such as weight loss, depression, headaches, or chest pain.
- If fatigue is accompanied by concentration or memory problems.
- If fatigue significantly impairs your quality of life and work.
Diagnosis and Treatment
- Examination and medical history. The doctor will collect information about your symptoms, lifestyle, and past medical history to determine possible causes of fatigue.
- Laboratory tests. Blood tests may be ordered to detect vitamin deficiencies, anemia, inflammation, or hormonal imbalances.
- Psychological counseling. In cases of psycho-emotional causes of fatigue, therapy may be needed to diagnose and treat anxiety or depression.
- Physical activity. Regular physical exercise, such as walking or yoga, can improve overall well-being and reduce fatigue.
- Dietary adjustments. Following a balanced diet that includes foods rich in vitamins and minerals can help increase energy levels and reduce fatigue.
