Myopia (Nearsightedness)

Description:

Myopia, commonly known as nearsightedness, is a refractive error in the eye where distant objects appear blurry while close objects can be seen clearly. This condition occurs when the eyeball is too long or the cornea is too curved, causing light entering the eye to focus in front of the retina. Myopia can develop gradually or rapidly and may worsen over time, especially in childhood.

Symptoms:

• Blurry vision when looking at distant objects.
• Eye strain or headaches, especially after prolonged reading or screen use.
• Squinting to see objects clearly.

Treatment:

• Eyeglasses or contact lenses to correct the vision.
• Refractive surgery (e.g., LASIK) to reshape the cornea and improve focus.
• Regular eye exams to monitor vision changes.
