Pain in the Zygomatic Area
Description:
Pain in the zygomatic (cheekbone) area can vary from mild discomfort to sharp or aching sensations. It may be localized or radiate to surrounding areas, such as the jaw, temple, or upper teeth. This type of pain is often associated with dental, sinus, or muscular issues, though other causes can also contribute.
Causes:
- Sinusitis or inflammation of the maxillary sinuses.
- Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders causing referred pain.
- Dental abscess or tooth infection in the upper jaw.
- Facial trauma or fracture of the zygomatic bone.
- Trigeminal neuralgia leading to sharp, shooting pain in the face.
- Muscle strain or tension in the facial muscles.
If the pain persists, worsens, or is accompanied by swelling, redness, or fever, medical consultation is recommended to determine the underlying cause and provide appropriate treatment.
