Inflammation of ENT Organs
What is it?
Inflammation of ENT (ear, nose, throat) organs is an inflammatory process affecting the mucous membrane and tissues of these organs. It is usually caused by infections, allergies, or irritants, leading to pain, swelling, redness, and dysfunction of the affected area.
Possible Causes
- Infections. Bacteria, viruses, or fungi can cause inflammation in the ears, nose, or throat.
- Allergic reactions. The impact of allergens can lead to inflammation of the mucous membrane of the ENT organs.
- Injuries. Injuries to the respiratory or hearing organs, such as bruises or surgeries, can cause inflammation.
- Chronic diseases. For example, chronic sinusitis, tonsillitis, or otitis can lead to prolonged inflammation.
Symptoms
- Pain in the throat, ears, or nose.
- Congestion or reduced hearing.
- Fever.
- Discharge from the nose or ears, possibly with pus.
Diagnosis and Treatment
- Medical examination. An ENT specialist may recommend an examination, laboratory tests, X-rays, or MRI to diagnose the inflammation.
- Treating infections. Depending on the type of infection, antibiotics, antivirals, or antifungals may be prescribed.
- Treating allergies. Anti-inflammatory drugs or antihistamines may be used to treat allergic inflammation.
- Physiotherapy. In some cases, procedures such as warming or inhalations may be indicated.
