Intercostal Pain

Description:

Intercostal pain occurs in the chest area between the ribs. It may be caused by inflammation of the intercostal muscles, nerves, or joints. This pain is commonly triggered by physical exertion, prolonged coughing, or trauma. The pain may worsen with breathing, especially during deep inhalations.

Main Causes:

• Inflammation of intercostal muscles or nerves
• Chest trauma or injury
• Infections (e.g., pneumonia)

Treatment:

Treatment involves using pain relievers and anti-inflammatory drugs, physical therapy, and, in the case of injuries, possibly bracing or immobilizing the chest area. If infections are involved, antibiotics may be required.
